Plants of Iceland: Traditional Uses and Folklore by Guðrún Bjarnadóttir and Jóhann Óli Hilmarsson
Plants and lichens were used historically in Iceland as food, dye, building materials and medicine. This beautiful book includes photographs, stories, folklore and myths that surrounded the plants of Iceland. Botanist Guðrún Bjarnadóttir has created this book as an easy to use guide with the support of photography from the renowned Jóhann Óli Hilmarsson, best known for his bird photography and the Icelandic Bird guide.
We recently visited Guðrún Bjarnadóttir at her home studio and shop at Hespuhúsið in Borgarfjorður, Iceland and learned about her process for hand dying Icelandic yarn with indigenous Icelandic plants. We loved it so much that we brought back a case of books to share.
The book is in English. 130 pages. 14.5 x 14.5 cm. Perfect gift to ship with Vinarterta!
